Jumada al-Thani
Jumada al-Thani — meaning The Second of Parched Land — is the 6th month of the Islamic Hijri calendar.
Overview
Jumada al-Thani, also called Jumada al-Akhirah, is the sixth month of the Islamic Hijri calendar. It marks the midpoint of the Hijri year and is the second of the two Jumada months, both named for the parched dryness historically associated with this period in pre-Islamic Arabia. Like its predecessor, Jumada al-Thani is no longer tied to any particular season due to the lunar drift of the Islamic calendar.
Notable Observances
The third of Jumada al-Thani is observed across much of the Muslim world as the death anniversary of Fatimah al-Zahra, daughter of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and mother of Hasan and Husayn. Shia communities in particular commemorate the date with dua sessions and short majlis gatherings. The month contains no major Sunni canonical observances and serves as the final preparation period before the sacred month of Rajab opens the Ramadan-Eid season of the year.
